Keyboard trouble on an iMac CRT model.
This interesting scenario started with disappearing letters and a few numbers
on the Imac’s USB keyboard.
on the Imac’s USB keyboard.
Sometimes I could fix the problem by unplugging the mouse or the keyboard (I Guess the iMac would look for, or reload the hardware that was unplugged).
Than the keyboard stopped working. It was replaced with a brand new one from the young and hip Mac store at the maul.
Now a new problem had developed, the computer would not boot with the new keyboard. You had to unplug it, let it load, than plug it back in again.
After many weeks of head scratching and finding nothing useful online from Apple or elsewhere...
I started updating the iMac .. it was a dual start up disk iMac with an early version of OS9 and a worthless version of OSX.
I than put in some power related patch, no change.
I updated the firmware (software for hardware more or less) no help.
I updated 9.1 to the last version 9.2 .2.
All of a sudden a new puzzle piece appeared on the screen during boot, showing two arrows, one faced left one faced right it was the first extension loaded (Some kind of USB in-out manager).
My Mac colleague in New York has told me always update OS9 and stay away from any version of OSX before 10.2.5 (I believe). He claims it was a work in progress before than.
