Vista is finally in the lab for testing.
Man that took some wrangling, special thanks to J.T. and Microsoft for pulling some strings for me, in return I give them and an evaluation and whatever error messages I can generate. Yea!
I am currently running the 64 bit flavor of Windows Vista Ultimate X64 Beta 2 Build 5384 Evaluation copy on an Amd Opteron single core 2.4 Ghz 1mb L2 cache box, Gigabyte 939 Nforce 3 motherboard with 1 gig dual Ddr1 400 memory and an 80 gig sata 150 Wd hard drive (7200 RPM).
I’m also running a pretty good Msi Direct X 9 Nvidia GeForce 6600  Agp video card with 256mb memory on the card.
With all that blazing hardware… Vista said my computer rated only 3 on windows performance meter/scale. More on this rating system next month.
That tells me the computers that are going to run Vista are going to be goliaths.
The install disk was a Dvd and Vista took up almost 19 gigs of hard drive real estate!!!!
At idle Vista  consumed 60% of the 1gig of memory I had!!!!
And sometimes taxed the processor 50% at idle!!!!
My God what are they gonna run this thing on a Cray or Deep Blue.
Well still getting my feet wet,I’ll keep you posted.
More to come in my next month’s newsletter.
Yowza! Ray
