Mac Tiger OSX
Ever once and awhile I get a break from Microsoft’s Windows.
Working on Mac’s usually is a breeze compared to fighting with Window’s on an IBM style PeeCee, installing OSX Tiger was no different.
I installed Tiger OSX 10.4.7 on an older dual boot OSX/OS9 slot loading CD-R, CRT Imac - Power Pc G3 600mhz with 512 of pc 100/133 ram.
I/We got the OS at the Mac store at the mall. I think it was under $150.00.
They failed to tell me I would need to exchange the DVD discs to 6 CDRs through Mac’s media exchange program.
I had to send back the DVDs for about $12.00,and wait for the CDR replacements.
Once I got the disc’s we decided to wipe the drive and start fresh.
I popped in the disc and hit restart.
After the computer rebooted, I was given a choice of using the Mac OS Journaled file system or the Unix file system.
Journaled has more repair and recover features, so I chose journaled -which it wanted to default to anyway.
The discs went in like a dream; it found the Internet connection by itself and loaded the HP printer software for the printer that was attached to the Imac.
I loaded the Epson scanner twain driver and the hardware was in.
I hooked up a Canon Powershot camera and the OS had no problem-getting photos off of it natively.
I increased some of the font sizes because the defaults were very small.
Tiger looks great and seems very stable.
I chose not to leave OS9 on the machine, because I hate that classic mode stuff-where OSX runs some kind of emulation that takes forever to load.
No turning back now-If jobs ever let’s Windows users run this OS …look out.
Put a Tiger in your tank!
